Final Score: Portugal 2 (Cristiano Ronaldo 45', 72') - 0 Sweden
Cristiano Ronaldo scored a peach of a free-kick to become only the second male player in the history of football to score 100 international goals as his brace fueled Portugal to a win over Sweden at the UEFA Nations League on Tuesday.
Ronaldo's 100th and 101st international goals saw Portugal to a 2-0 win away at Sewden.
Ronaldo joins Ali Daei who scored 109 times for Iran, becoming the second most international goal scorer in the history of football.
The Portuguese captain scored with a beautiful dipping set-piece effort just before the half-time to mark his century of goals in style. The effort came after Gustav Svensson was sent off for the home side in the first half.
Portugal was the more dominant side and Sweden had almost no answer to this. Ronaldo beat the off-side trap in the opening in the early moments, but Swedish goalkeeper Olsen was equal to it. The Swedish resistance failed when Svensson fouled Joao Moutinho on the edge of his own box and was sent off after seeing a second yellow for the tackle.
Portugal survived an early scare as Marcus Berg wasted an opportunity by heading wide. However Pepe also failed to turn in a cross from Bernardo Silva, who got injured in the process.
Ronaldo stepped up and smashed an incredible free-kick beyond the desperate Olsen and just under the crossbar before breaking into his customary celebration.
Portugal the sealed the victory in the 73rd minute with Ronaldo's yet another incredible goal from outside the box, this time in open play. This brace leaves him only eight goals short of Ali Daei's international striking record.
With two wins from two games Portugal top Group 3, ahead on goal difference of France, who beat Croatia 4-2, with the Swedes third and the Croatians bottom.
France meet Portugal in a top-of-the-table clash in Paris on Oct. 11, while Croatia host Sweden on the same date.
